Througout history, as it could be read in the section 'Humboldt en Canarias - Canarias en el centro de la diana', the Canary Islands have been considered a marvelous laboratory for the study of evolution and biodiversity. Our islands, due to their oceanic origin and their geographic isolation, are the perfect scenario for the appearance of new species, exclusive from our territory. In fact, around one third of the species on our archipelago are endemic, that is, this is the only place where they can be found. Therefore, from IES Marina Cebrián we want to contribute through this website, giving information for the educational community regarding the delicate and wonderful ecosystems of our islands and the biodiversoty which can be found here.

Creating little scientists step by step at our highschool

Las grandes contribuciones de los científicos y científicas en relación a las Islas Canarias son, sin lugar a duda, una maravilla de la que no cabe más que sentirse agradecidos. Peeeeero, nosotros también queremos jugar un papel en toda esta historia. A fin de cuentas, en nuestro centro se están formando ahora mismo pequeños científicos que en el futuro quizás descubran nuevas especies, cómo funcionan nuestros ecosistemas e incluso nuevas sustancias y procesos que permitan curar enfermedades hasta ahora incurables o incluso desconocidas. 

Este proyecto no es más que nuestro granito de arena como docentes para que, con suerte, las generaciones futuras sigan teniendo la posibilidad de disfrutar de las maravillas ecológicas que atesoran las denominadas "Islas Afortunadas". We all have to be grateful  for the  great contributions our scientists have done regarding  the Canary Islands. But, of course, we want to have a specific role in the elaboration of this story. Moreover, nowadays there are some little scientists at our high school who are learning and getting some specific knowledge in order to be real scientists in the future.   Perhaps, these scientists will be those future ones who will discover new species, those who will tell us how the ecosystems function, or even they will be the people who discover new substances and processes to cure incurable or even unknown diseases. 

This project is just a small contribution of some teachers to our future generations and a way they will be able to experience the ecological wonders of the” Lucky Islands”.
