Lunch and After School Detentions
Lunch detention and after school detentions will be used as a consequence for lower level behavioral offenses. The purpose of detention is to assist students in the correction of unacceptable behaviors, direct them toward making better behavioral choices in the future, and prepare them for life’s expectations and responsibilities. It is the position of DLMS that a student’s employment or involvement in extra-curricular activities is secondary to their responsibility for completing detentions by the due dates as assigned. Parents are also notified by mail, email, or telephone from the administrative team or its immediate representative. When a student is assigned to an after school detention, transportation is the responsibility of the student and parents. Parents and students are not permitted to “excuse” a student from the requirement of serving detention. Failure to serve detention(s) will result in progressive discipline.
Lunch Detentions
The student will report to Room130 to serve lunch detention during the student's scheduled lunch time.
After School Detentions
After school detentions are scheduled from 2:35 pm until 3:45 pm. If the student is not in attendance for their detention by 2:35 pm, they will be considered "skipping," not allowed to attend detention that day, and progressive consequences will be applied.
Location
All detentions will be served in Room 130.
Rescheduling Detentions
The parent or guardian has one opportunity to reschedule an after school detention/This must be rescheduled with the administrative team prior to the day of the detention that was initially scheduled. If the student does not reschedule the detention prior to this date and they do not attend the entire detention, they will be considered "skipping" and progressive consequences will be applied.
Consequences for Skipping Detentions
A student who willfully misses an after school detention would be subject to progressive discipline may include a school suspension.
A parent and or guardian may reschedule one after-school detention without penalty but after one rescheduled detention progressive disciplinary actions will be applied.
If the student does not attend the entire detention period they are required to serve, the student will be considered "skipping" and progressive consequences may be applied.
