Rights of Expression and Freedom of Speech

Rights of Expression/Freedom of Speech

The School recognizes the right of students to express themselves. With the right of expression comes the responsibility to do it appropriately. Students may distribute or display, at appropriate times, non- sponsored, noncommercial written material and petitions; buttons, badges, or other insignia; clothing, insignia, and banners; and audio and video materials. All items must meet school guidelines and be approved by administration ahead of time.

Advertising Outside Activities

Students may not post announcements or advertisements for outside activities without receiving prior approval from the principal. The principal will try to respond to requests for approval within 2 business days of receipt.

Cultural Competence

Cultural competence is having an awareness of one’s own cultural identity and views about difference, and the ability to learn and build on the varying cultural and community norms of students and their families. At Caledonia Community Schools, we believe that it is the ability to understand the within-group differences that make each student unique, while celebrating the between-group variations that make our community special.
