Disciplinary Guidelines

Level Three Offenses

The following offenses are those that are not only punishable by law, but will also result in the most severe consequences through school disciplinary action.

  

Level three offenses include:

o   Possession and/or sale of weapons or explosive devices, including pepper spray.

o   Possession, consumption, and/or sale/distribution of alcohol

o   Possession/consumption, and/or sale/distribution of drugs, narcotics, prescription drugs and/or look-alike drugs and drug paraphanalia. 

o   Sexual Misconduct & Criminal Sexual Misconduct (CSC)

o   Calling in bomb threats

o   Making threats implying physical harm to others (verbal, written, or social media)

o   Pulling false fire alarms

o   Theft over $100


First offense for the sale/distribution of drugs, narcotics, prescription drugs, and look-alikes will be a recommendation to the School Board for expulsion. Students will be referred to law enforcement for the determination of appropriate charges.

 

First offense for possession/consumption of drugs, narcotics, prescription drugs, and look-alikes will be a ten (10) day suspension from school; a 2ndoffense will be a recommendation to the School Board for expulsion. Students will be referred to law enforcement for the determination of appropriate charges.

 

School disciplinary action for other offenses listed will be at least a five (5) day suspension from school and at most expulsion through School Board action.  Consequences will include the loss of the privilege to attend school events and extracurricular activities. 

 

The police will be notified as required by the administration and the student will be encouraged to enlist the aid of a counselor for rehabilitative purposes. The school has a sincere interest in the outcome of the counseling and requests that a release be signed by the student and his/her parent/guardian(s) allowing the school to have contact with the counselor in an effort to support the rehabilitation.

Level Two Offenses

The following offenses are those which could be punishable in a court of law, but which are usually handled at school.

 

Level two offenses include:

o   Fighting or instigating a fight (directing an aggressive physical act toward another individual)

o   Intimidation (the making of verbal or physical threats toward another individual)

o   Bullying & Cyberbullying

o   Harassment (Written/Spoken) & Hazing

o   Sexual harassment (unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors or other verbal or physical conduct or communication of a sexual or suggestive nature)

o   Disrespectful or abusive language/gestures toward another individual

o   Any action that seriously endangers another individual

o   Defiance of rightful authority

o   Willful destruction or defacing of school property


 

School disciplinary action for these major offenses will be determined on an individual basis by the principal or designee. Possible consequences range from a two (2) day suspension from school with the maximum consequence being expulsion by the School Board. Possible consequences could also include the loss of the privilege to attend school events and extracurricular activities. 

Level One Offenses 

Level one offenses include:

o   Skipping classes or tardiness (consequences outlined in the attendance/ tardiness policy)

o   Closed campus violations. Students are not to leave school grounds during the school day without a passport

o   Dangerous or improper use of vehicles on school grounds

o   Inappropriate public displays of affection

o   Continuous disruptive behavior

o    Using or displaying tobacco, vape or vapor products

o   Insubordination or failure to follow directions/procedures

o   Horseplay or unwanted physical contact

o   Disorderly/Unruly conduct

o   Cheating

o   Parking / Driving Violations

o   Technology Violations (Including Cell Phone Use)

 

School disciplinary action for these offenses will be determined on an individual basis with the minimum consequence being an one (1) hour Detention. Possible consequences could also include the loss of the privilege to attend school events and extracurricular activities.  Students will be referred to law enforcement for the determination of appropriate charges.

eCigarettes, Vaping, and Tobacco

Smoking, vaping, and other tobacco uses are a danger to a student's health and to the health of others. The school prohibits the sale, distribution, use, or possession of any form of tobacco or eCigarette product during school time or at any school activity. This prohibition also applies when going to and from school and at school bus stops. Violations of this rule could result in detention, suspension, expulsion and a loss of extra-curricular attendance privileges. "Use of tobacco" shall mean all uses of tobacco, including cigars, cigarettes, eCigarettes or pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco, snuff, or any other matter or substance that contains tobacco, nicotine, or vapor juice, in addition to papers used to roll cigarettes. The display of unlighted cigars, cigarettes, pipes, other "smoking" or “vaping” paraphernalia or tobacco products on one's person is also prohibited by this policy.

Consequences

1st Offense

·   2 days OSS (recommendation to complete Vape or Tobacco education modules)

2nd Offense

 5 days OSS and loss of extracurricular attendance privileges for one calendar year


3rd Offense 10 day OSS (referral to Law Enforcement)


4th+ Offense(s)

·   Progressive Discipline

·   Referral to law enforcement.
