Care of Property & Dress Code

Care of Property

Students are responsible for the care of their own personal property. The school will not be responsible for personal property. Valuables such as jewelry or irreplaceable items should not be brought to school. The school may confiscate such items and return them to the student's parents.

Damage to or loss of school equipment and facilities wastes taxpayers' money and undermines the school program. Therefore, if a student does damage to or loses school property, the student or his/her parents will be required to pay for the replacement or damage. If the damage or loss was intentional, the student will also be subject to discipline according to the Student Discipline Code.

Dress Code

We are proud of the students of CHS and welcome their individuality and sense of style. Therefore, we do not have a severely restrictive dress code, but ask that our students abide by the following simple guidelines:

o Footwear is required.

o Clothing displaying profanity, is vulgar or sexually suggestive and/or creates a disruption to the learning environment will not be permitted.

o Clothing advertising illegal drugs or alcohol, or dealing with death, destruction, or suicide will not be worn.

o Conspicuously thin or sheer garments, bare midriffs, spaghetti straps/ halter tops, cut-off t-shirts and muscle shirts are not permissible. Professional, tailored sleeveless clothing will be appropriate.

o Shorts and mini-skirts must not disrupt the educational environment of the daily classroom. Clothing should cover a student’s private parts.

o Hoods shall be removed upon entering the building and are not permitted to be worn at anytime in the building. In order to be able to identify students for security reasons a student cannot wear anything that covers or obscures their face unless it is for a medical reason or for purposes of religious observance. Hats and headwear are permissible as long as it meets all other dress code standards and is not a distraction to the educational environment.

Interpretation of the Dress Code is left to the discretion of school staff member.
