- Provides financial aid to California undergraduates, vocational training students, and those in teacher certification programs.
Cal Grant A Requirements (for 4 year colleges)
- For low to middle income students with at least a 3.00 GPA
- May be used for a 2 or 4 years in length
- Can only be applied to tuition and fees
- Cal Grants are up to $12,240 at a University of California campus, up to $5,472 at a California State University campus, and up to $9,084 at independent colleges
Cal Grant B Requirements (for 4 year colleges)
- For low income students with at least a 2.00 GPA
- May be used for an academic program that is at least 1 year in length
- When renewed or awarded beyond your first year, you’ll receive the living allowance as well as a tuition and fee award (up to $12,240 at a UC campus, up to $5,472 at a CSU campus and up to $9,084 at independent colleges for 2016-2017)
- Includes an additional annual Access Award amount (living expenses) in addition to tuition and fees after the first year of up to $1,656
Application Process (Due by March 2)
- Complete the FAFSA.
- Submit your verified Cal Grant GPA, either sent from your school or by filling out the GPA verification form online.

- Meet AB 540 requirements o Submit high school GPA
- Graduate high school or equivalent (GED, CHSPE)
- Scholarship for students with family incomes and assets up to $156,000
- The Child Development Grant Program (Program) is a need-based grant designed to encourage students attending a community college or a four-year institution to enter the field of child care and development and work in a licensed children’s center.
- Provides need based educational grants to dependents and spouses of CA peace officers (highway patrol, marshals, sheriffs, police officers), DOC and CA Youth Authority employees, and permanent/full-time firefighters employed by public entities who have been killed in the performance of duty or totally disabled as a result of accident/injury incurred in the performance of duty
- Grant awards match the amount of a Cal Grant award-range from $100 to $12,192 for up to 4 years
