My name is Aaliyah and I am a senior from Montpelier High School. Media has been a big part of my life, and I think it's a valuable part of our generation's impact compared to older generations, so creating media is something that I'm very drawn to!
I love watching movies ad TV shows, so I am looking forward to learning more about the process that goes into making them. I also really enjoy listening to music, specifically the artist "The Weeknd", and like to imagine and visualize music videos based on the song vibes.
This year I am looking forward to making media that sticks with people.

Growing up I watched a lot of TV and film and always found myself trying to guess what is going to happen next. As I grew older I wondered about the process behind producing things in the media. I was finally able to explore the technology and components needed to understand this world my senior year of high school at the Central Vermont Career Center. Although the year was short I have learned many things it takes to be an artist in today's society. The most important thing to remember as an artist is that sometimes things aren’t going to go as planned so you have to keep an open mind and be able to be flexible.
My favorite medium to create are videos, and that comes from the excitement I felt as a young person transfixed by the stories being told on screen. I aspire to create all kinds of film, whether they are short sketches or full-length films, and my growth as an artist and filmmaker will guide me through new film lengths and types. Right now my focus is comedy because that is a genre that I think works best in short videos and can allow a filmmaker to tell a story that everyone can appreciate and enjoy. I hope to create drama, horror, and other genres as I develop my skills with editing and visual storytelling.
I am incredibly inspired by the work of rapper, musician, and film producer The Weeknd, specifically during his first 3 albums. The way he can tell a story through a 4 minute song and have you feel so many different things is something that I think is hard to do, and so being able to accomplish something like that really fascinates me. A goal of mine is to eventually turn a plot of one of his songs into a film that flows as smoothly as his music.
The world around me of random things and sporadic moments is where I find inspiration; the process of taking anything and turning it into something else is my favorite thing about creating art. I hope my films create meaning out of unexpectedness that makes my audience feel an emotion, learn an idea, or share my inspiration. In this way, film is one of the most powerful things I can do; I create because it’s a memory that I can look back on and experience again. It's important that we all share what we've created so future generations will have the chance to improve them and make better art than today.
