Flan Phantasm
Making a collage in Photo Shop is a great way to express your inner artist. In this project, I used other images or sources to add my own artistic touch to them and turn them into something brand new and complex. Flan Phantasm is complicated but also intriguing to the mind, as I used over 100 layers in this piece to keep the audience looking for new images. This project should make people feel happy and safe.
In this project, I placed a camera in my room, took multiple captures in different places and positions while changing clothes between each shot. Then, I combined them in Photoshop to create this collage of myself. Only two of my clones are smiling with their eyes closed, while the other two have their eyes open and are not smiling. This symbolizes how ignorance is bliss and only when you open your eyes does the world seem to appear differently or more serious.
Shining Through - Clipping Mask Text Design
This project was about using clipping masks in Photo Shop in order for the text to be made up of photos. I was inspired by both the XTC song "Complicated Game" and Super Mario 64, which is in fact a complicated game. My love of video games comes both from my mom and my uncle. When I was little, my uncle first introduced me to Mario 64 where I immediately fell in love with the chunky graphics and music.
Photoshop Magic - Levitation Effect
This project was about using Photo Shop to make it appear that someone is floating by using mask layers and shadows. I took this challenge to the next level by adding fairy wings to two pictures. One of which is not a levitation effect, but just a photo for fun.
My watercolor effect project was one of my favorite so far in this unit! Mixing paintings (especially watercolor) with your own photos or media is super fun and easy. I used a scanner to convert my actual painting into a tif file and then added photos of myself into it afterwards. Why this assignment was so fun was because you can be as creative and colorful as you want to be. You can use any images of yourself, use any effects, just really embrace your personality through Photoshop.
That Studio Life - Studio Photo Explorations
These were some photos I shot with a team as we were starting to experiment with studio photography and lighting. We will be using our school studio a lot in this class to take unique photos.
Seeing and Feeling - Macro Photography
I observed insects (and one arachnid) in this project. Bugs have always interested me even though some are creepy looking. Using macro photography, it was a lot easier to observe the tiny details on these animals. No grasshoppers were harmed in this process (it was already dead).
Get Studio Lit - Studio Lighting Experiments
This was an experimental photo shoot to shoot five photos with different lighting. Since this was a group project, I wanted to make sure no one felt uncomfortable with me using their faces, so I just used a few of the photos taken of me. Using different lighting and lighting positions is a very important skill to have when taking photos, especially of people.
Sakura Louise Study - Personal Project
My kitty, Sakura Louise is a very big part of my life as well as an inspiration to me and my art. I absolutely adore taking animal photos, especially of cats and insects. Every animal/pet is special and deserves recognition with a macro photo compilation!
Condo Resident Study - Personal Project
At the beginning of the school year, I went to my Nana's condo association to take photos. Many of the women in the photos I have known for a very long time, so it was really nice to be able to shoot these pictures and make them feel happy and appreciated. As Summer passes, it's nice to be able to remember the interactions and memories made. I feel that these pictures capture that feeling.
This was a group project where we experimented with slowing the shutter speed of a camera in order to create illusions with light! At least one person was the main focus, while someone went behind them and moved the lights.
Face Swap Challenge
This project was something most of the class did for fun, however doing something as easy as a face swap is really important for practicing editing and photo shop skills. Here is my face swap submission - I swapped my face for the face of a fish. I feel that it goes very nicely with the outfit I am wearing and creates a gothic, uncanny valley feel.
Photography Challenge (color vs black and white)
This was our first photography challenge where we had an open-ended prompt that we used photography to communicate. This prompt was to take a photo that either only worked in color or a photo that only worked in black and white, and these are my submissions!
(Best in color) Acorn Eater
(Best in black and white) Laughing
(Best in color) Leafy Wall
(Best in black and white) 42-42-564
Pixel Dispersion Effect
Ever wanted to edit yourself fading in or out? Pixel dispersions are really easy and very mystical ways of manipulating a photo edit. I incorporated stars, planets, and other astrological designs to create this piece.
Bring Me the Horizon - Landscapes
This project was a compilation of landscape photography that we shot making use of wide angle lenses, closed apertures, long exposures, tripods, and even HDR/panorama effects to capture vivid detailed landscapes. These were some favorites I shot during the fall season!
Manipulated Double Exposure Edit
In this project, we used a portrait of ourselves and added images to show through slightly, giving it a double exposure effect. I felt the need to use realistic brains, as I've felt lately that I don't think with my head as much as my heart. It is nearing Halloween as well, so it's only appropriate to embrace the creepiness of the month.
Make It Move- Photoshop GIF Animation
To preview our upcoming studies in graphics and animation, we made GIF sequences in Photoshop using some photography and other graphics. Photoshop is perfect for making GIFs and cinemagraphs since you can create them like a video using a timeline! I ended up making two GIF animations for this project, both made frame-by-frame using different techniques.
Extrospection - Portrait Photography
Portrait Photography is something every photographer experiments with. It can be scary since there has to be communication between the model and the photographer, but it was super interesting to do and I am happy with the outcome. In these three photos we have my mom holding a rainbow umbrella and my friend, Eli outside on a cool, fall day.
The Blockbuster - Movie Poster Redesign
For this project we recreated posters from famous movies starring ourselves and our classmates! We designed these as high quality documents using the full size billboard layouts. We had to create every element ourselves and could only import limited credited assets, so every layer of this design was something I shot or brought together. The basis of the design came from a photo we shot in the studio where we actually set up a TV playing static with creepy and dramatic cold lighting. The rest was edited in Photo Shop. Overall, I am very proud of this piece and it makes me feel like I really am in the movie "Poltergeist."
