The OCR Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity is a vocational qualification designed with the workplace in mind. Students will study a range of areas of sporting theory including anatomy and physiology, sports psychology, sports organisation and development, sports coaching and sports injury. Students will also plan and deliver a series of practical coaching sessions as well as having the opportunity to develop their practical performance level in individual and team sports. Assessment is varied and includes externally set and assessed examinations as well as internally assessed and externally moderated coursework units. Students should have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the sports sector and have high levels of organisation linked to the ongoing nature of assessment.
Sports facilities at the school are extensive and include field space, a multi sports astroturf surface, sports hall, gymnasium and fitness suite. There are also opportunities for students to represent school teams in a range of sports.
1. Make sure the students keep up to date with all coursework assignment tasks. After every lesson on coursework units students will have work to complete. Keeping up to date is vital if you want to hit the higher grades on units.
2. VITAL students prepare thoroughly for externally assessed examination units. Exams will be taken in January and June of Year 12 - both these are mandatory units and carry high weighting towards the overall grade
3. Use the feedback provided for coursework units to enable you to hit the higher grades – must be familiar with GOOGLE CLASSROOM to achieve this
4. Make sure students are fully familiar with grading criteria - you must read through the requirements of ALL the Pass, Merit and Distinction grading criteria for each coursework unit. If unsure ask.
5. Attend after school VOCATIONAL SUPPORT CLASS where required. Support classes are generally run every Monday and friday after school and are designed for students to complete work under staff supervision.
