Chemistry

Head of Chemistry

Mr L Charmokly

Chemistry is the study of how atoms and their subatomic particles interact with each other. It has many crossovers with both Biology and Physics so complements them well and offers a wealth of opportunities for future career paths including medicine, dentistry engineering and more.

The exam board is AQA and in the first year we recap some of the basic GCSE content which we then take a step further into some of the A-level content. In year 2, we build upon the knowledge and skills attained in year 1 and will learn some of the more advanced concepts in chemistry.

The course is linear so you will sit 3 exams at the end of the 2 years with a mix of content from both years of study.

There will also be a practical endorsement with 12 required practicals that must be completed and which will be assessed by us in school and sent to the exam board.

Chemistry is a fascinating course and we have an excellent support structure and resources within the science faculty so we hope you decide to continue studying this with us next year.
