Drawing an object in three dimensions is a useful way of presenting designs/drawings. These can be drawn as a free hand sketch or a formal drawing. An oblique sketch puts more focus on the face or front of an object while an isometric sketch puts more focus on the edge of an object.
Isometric drawings are used to explain how something works. In order for a design to appear three dimensional, a 30 degree angle is applied to its sides. Isometric drawings are commonly used by Architects, Interior designers, Game Designers, and Infographics.
There are three main rules to isometric drawing:
Horizontal edges are drawn at 30 degrees
Vertical edges are drawn as vertical lines
Parallel edges appear as parallel lines
Oblique sketches are usually drawn using a 45 degree angle and objects are not in perspective.
There are three main rules to oblique drawing:
Draw the front or side view of the object.
All measurements drawn backwards are half the original measurement.
45 degrees is the angle for all lines drawn backwards.
