In your browser if you can't see your bookmarks bar then CTRL+SHIFT+B to show it.
If you cannot see the BHS folder (has the link for Schoology) on the far left then you need to sync your account.
To do this:
click your little profile pic top right of the URL bar
Then click the Sync button
When the white box appears
Tick the box (this is not a major but opens your account in the current browser you have open rather then a new one)
click 'LINK DATA' and this will link your account info up.
Now bookmark the BHS DT Website by going back to our home page https://sites.google.com/burnside.school.nz/bhs-digital-technologies/junior/9dgt and clicking the star on the URL bar
If your internet is not working and you are connected to the network you may need to login to Linewize (sometimes you have logged in and the connection drops and you will need to do again)
This year 9DGT is trialling the use of Google Classroom rather than schoology. This won't change much for you as all of the course resources are on this website. You will use Google Classroom to submit work, but most of the time the website will link directly to the task/assessment in google classroom.
Make sure you are logged into Google the head to Google Classroom

Any work you do on a school computer that needs to be saved on the computer should be save in your H drive. This means you can access these files anywhere in the school and also at home. If you download images or other files they will be in your downloads and you either need to move the original (cut and paste as you can't drag and drop) or make sure when you open and save you save in your H drive.
To find your H drive, open up file explorer, Windows + E is the shortcut
Under This PC find your student number i.e. 26xxx
In your H drive or your own personal computer you should be making sure:
you have folders for each subject, name the folders how you like e.g 9DT / 9DGT / 9 Digi Tech
within each folder you should have sub folders. In DT you should have:
AI
Image Manipulation
Data Visualisation
Character Design
you place your files in the relevant folder
you are naming your files appropriately to reflect what it it so you don't have a million 'untitled'
know where your work is (especially on your own device)
Good folder and file management should be seen on your H drive, google drive and your own computer. In DT you will mainly save in your H drive as everything else is via schoology. For other subjects you may only use your google drive and so you should have a structure in place.
HOT TIP: Use google drive to manage all your google suite files e.g docs, forms, sheets etc
Spending 5 minutes typing at the start of each lesson is a simple way to build a skill you’ll use in every subject. The more you practise, the faster and more accurate you get, so you can get your ideas down quickly without getting slowed down by the keyboard. It also helps you focus and settle in, so you’re ready to learn straight away. Think of it like a warm-up: short, low-stress, and it makes the rest of the lesson smoother.
Join typing.com, log in using your google account. Your teacher will give you the class code.

Try Gimp & make a Hybrid Animal
(5 Minutes)
Open Gimp (it's already on the computer so use the magnifying glass) and make a hybrid animal. Like ------------>.
Some things to have a go at:
how do you get an image?
how do you import an image into Gimp?
how do you edit the image?
what different tools are there and what do they do?
Now save it into your H drive with an appropriate name.
Try Inkscape & make a Snowman
(5 Minutes)
Open Inkscape (it's already on the computer) and make the most realistic snowman you can.
Some things to have a go at:
how do you make a shape?
how do you layer shapes?
how do you change the colour of the stroke and fill?
what different tools are there and what do they do?
Now save it into your H drive with an appropriate name.
Try Scratch & make a program
(5 Minutes)
Create an account on scratch using your school e-mail https://scratch.mit.edu/
Create a new project
Make a program that:
The user types in their name, and a number
Gives the user a personal greeting by name, and multiplies the number by 10
Think about:
What did you try first? (Which task did you start with and why?)
What did you manage to do in 5 minutes? (Even something small counts.)
What was tricky or confusing? (What slowed you down?)
What did you do when you got stuck? (Guessing, clicking menus, undo, asking, searching, trying something else?)
What did you notice about the software/tools? (Anything you discovered, even by accident?)
Where did you save your work, and how do you know? (Could you find it again?)
What’s one thing you want to be able to do next time?
