The Stockton Grange No. 316 was established on March 27, 1875.


p. 90. “Perhaps we can hardly appreciate the feeling that existed in regard to secret organizations in 1875. Much prejudice was evinced especially by the ladies, signs and passwords were looked upon with high disfavor. Sister McCullough declared she would have nothing to do with the order despite the anxiety of Bro. McCullough that she should join. But after entertaining the Deputy Mr. Willing (from Sherman, NY) at dinner and seeing both him and brother McCullough depart for the hall, something whispered in the ear of our worthy sister, to investigate the matter for herself. Consequently, a cloth was thrown over the dinner table, a hasty toilet made and “Mol” was soon in the town hall where she was warmly welcomed by all, especially by Bro. Mc Cullough.”
