Niobe Grange No. 1215

This grange was organized on January 23, 1911 through the efforts of Rev. Hiram N. Cornish, who was elected the first Master. Rev. Cornish had retired from a long career as a Baptist minister and had come to Niobe and was operating the old Cornish Family Farm. There were 30 charter members.

From the Town of Harmony History, p. 256: "In L. C. Way’s Hall on January 20, 1911 a meeting was held for the purpose of organizing a Grange. They rented various halls, namely ‘Wilson’s Hall and’ Cook’s Hall. In 1958, membership was at 111.

At a meeting of the taxpayers of Niobe School District held in Wilson's Hall on November 3, 1951 with 37 persons present, it was agreed to sell the frame school building and ½ acre of land to Niobe Grange No. 1215 for the sum of $100.00. The Grange agreed to renovate the building and use if for their own purposes and also for community purposes on a non-profit basis. Their first meeting was held there on January 19, 1952. Much work was done both by the Grange and the community to prepare the building for use. The “Niobe Farm and Home Supply Store” donated 35 chairs and the Town of Harmony Highway Dept. gravelled the parking lot. The building was dedicated on April 23, 1954.
