This course will provide opportunities for you to develop relevant technical, vocational and interpersonal competencies suitable for employment and further training in the entertainment industry, as well as skills, knowledge and experience – such as teamwork, creativity and innovation.
Assessment is on-going based on observations, oral questions, written tests, projects and work booklets, and student demonstrations. Assessment is based on satisfactory and competency - no marks or grades are awarded. VET assessment is different to standard school assessment. In VET you are either competent or not yet competent (a bit like a driving test). Your mark for HSC is taken from your results in the mid-course and trial exams. It is optional to do the HSC exam – e.g. if you want an ATAR.
Workplacement is mandatory - It is a Board of Studies requirement that you complete 70 hours work placement for this course. Half of this (35 hours) can be done at our CAPA events such as the school musical and play, showcase nights and other school events. At least 35 hours must be one outside of school.
There are 15 units of competency that VET Entertainment Industry students must be assessed on to complete the full Certificate 3 in Live Production and Technical Services. Completing the first 12 will give you a 'statement of attainment' and allow you to include this unit for your HSC and ATAR. Completing the last 3 will give you the full certificate.

The Entertainment Industry is counted as a construction industry. Therefore, you will need to complete White Card Training (CPCCWHS1001: Prepare to work safely in the construction Industry) to work within this industry even if it is on school events. This training will be conducted at school in Term 1 and will take a full day. We need to get this done quickly so we can get on to the fun stuff!
Once the White Card is completed you will then be involved in class work and practical work to show that you can apply the WHS skills that you have learnt in an authentic entertainment industry setting. You will also complete your First Aid Certificate by completing some online modules in class and participating in a one day practical session.

Stage Management doesn't have its own competency but is an important part of the industry which brings together a lot of the competencies. ACTIVITY
Have a look at the video (left) to get a bit more of an idea of the role of a stage manager.
Statement of Attainment
All students who complete the 2 Unit course will receive a Statement of Attainment. This is a certificate that shows all of the competencies you have achieved and can be used to gain ‘recognition of prior learning’ if you want to do further study at TAFE.
Certificate III
To gain the full Certificate III: Live Production and Technical Services before leaving school you would need to take on an extra unit of Entertainment in Year 12. This is not essential and you could finish off the rest of the Certificate III at TAFE but why not do it before you leave and have it done. This means that you will be employable as soon as you leave school. This would, however, obviously have an effect on other subjects (you may need to drop another subject to pick up this unit). The first 2 units of Entertainment count to your ATAR but the third unit is purely for the Certificate III.
Go to the Google Form (left) and complete it. This is just to give me an idea of where everyone is up to and what your expectations are.
