Mrs. Avant and Mrs. Vitello were invited to present this cross-curricular experience at NSTA's STEM Forum on July 2021 and at NCTE in November 2022
Premise:
With the community of Richmond Hill as the fastest-growing county in the state of Georgia and the sixth fastest-growing county in the United States, the balance between economy and ecology can be difficult. As thousands of new homes are added to our community the animals that once called those areas home are displaced. Using the RoadKill tracker app created by Ms. Avant's class in 2019 student's spend the year tracking roadkill that they encounter around the community before analyzing that data, the organisms that make up those data points, and developing potential solutions that they share with the city's mayor on how we can maintain the balance between the humans and nature in the ecosystem we call home.
