As part of the RHMS STEAM program, students must participate in at least one state, regional, or national STEAM-related competition. While COVID impacted our ability to host and compete in competitions as a school in person, we have begun to open up those doors again with the 2022-23 school year.
So far in the 2022-23 school year the RHMS STEAM program has:
1) We have planned and will host the inaugural STEAM Fest here on RHMS's campus. For the first year, we will host a Green Power USA race, Sea Perch ROV competition, and STEAM Cat Racing Drone competition for our students and other schools to participate in.
2) We have placed now for the fourth year in a row for the Samsung Solve For Tomorrow Competition
3) Competed in the Port Royal Maritime Foundation 2022 Recycled Art Contest
For the past four years, our program has placed a team in the Samsung Solve For Tomorrow competition as winners for the state of Georgia and as national semi-finalists. These successes have allowed us to invest the grants received in additional technology for our students from a classroom set of tablets, laptops, and smartboards.
While our desired format has had to change each of the past three years due to COVID, we've been able to return to our desired format in the 2022-23 school year students where students the ability to choose what competitions and topics they wanted to be a part of. Students filled out a Google Form where they selected from a list of competitions and topics and ranked their top 5 choices.
STEAM competition survey that students fill out each year so we can schedule them based on interest.
