All project-based learning units in the RHMS STEAM program follow a consistent formula so students can focus on creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication instead of having to interpret a different format for every project or grade level. We accomplish this by making sure every project from the day it is introduced has:
1) A rubric
2) Community partners & experts
3) Student handout
4) Multiple checkpoints for feedback
5) Teacher prior planning for its implementation into students' engineering notebooks
6) A virtual notebook for polished work and their student portfolio
7) Parent letter detailing the project, the timeline, partners, and due date.
8) An end product that requires every group to present their solutions, proposals, prototypes, or final product to their teacher and peers.
9) An opportunity for the top 10 performing groups from each project to present to the community partners & experts they heard from earlier to determine a top group. Winning groups receive recognition, an experience, or an award, and nothing that impacts their grades.
10) This information and more is organized into a Google Site that can be shared so parents and students receive the same information from day 1 of a project that spans weeks, so everyone knows the expectations regardless of the teacher they have or if they've had to be absent for any reason
