Exhibitions

Exhibitions provide the space to visually display the results of extensive research in a range of venues. These may be held at Oxford Brookes, in Oxford city centre, or beyond. From business to healthcare and from art to engineering, students from any discipline can give their research valuable exposure through participating in exhibitions, and utilise the opportunity to develop professional networks.

Exhibitions can be extracurricular or tied to the curriculum. Some are even student-led. Students from Oxford Brookes have displayed their work at “Free Range” in London, the Bristol Artists Book Event, and many more exhibitions. For example:

The Fine Art Degree Show is held annually on campus as well as in and around Oxford to display the research outcomes of final year Fine Art students. Students also produce an exhibition catalogue of the wide ranges of pieces on show.

Challenging Thresholds was an exhibition held at Open House Oxford in May 2019 by the Interior Architecture students at Oxford Brookes. The exhibition looked at what a ‘threshold’ means for creating public spaces. The students had been invited to imagine how you take a unique space like Open House, styled as a kind of ‘public living room’, and make it welcoming to all. It also looked at how citizens of Oxford interact with their public spaces and where we draw the line between ‘homed’ and ‘homeless’.

Reinventing Research: The Messy Process was an exhibition held in 2015 at the Glass Tank Gallery at Brookes in which students from the Associate College Partnership provided a glimpse into the often publicly unacknowledged journey made along the path of research. The exhibits revealed the thought processes and idea development of students from various disciplines, including graphic design, business and communication, health and social care, and early childhood studies.
