National Student Conferences 2024
Every year the Student Research Launch Pad funds and mentors undergraduate students from the university and its college partners to present research at external conferences
Find out about the British Conference for Undergraduate Research (BCUR) and Posters in Parliament
"I wanted to present my work at BCUR because I’m going into postgraduate studies, so it made sense to attend a conference. Before the event I was excited but slightly nervous; presenting isn’t my thing. In hindsight, presenting my poster was fun and it was great to see the work that other Brookes students had done. My favourite part was the Gala Dinner as I talked to fellow Brookes students and students from other UK universities. It was an amazing experience, and if you get the opportunity to go you should."

Posters in Parliament (PIP)
28th February 2024
Posters in Parliament is a fantastic event that provides an opportunity for over 50 undergraduate students, representing universities from across the UK, to exhibit their research in Westminster. The 2024 exhibition takes place in Portcullis House, House of Commons, London on 28 February 2024 between 1.30 - 3.30 pm and presenters and guests are also be able to take advantage of morning activities (a tour of the House of Lords and Westminster Hall (75 minutes) and/or a 'Get your voice heard in UK Parliament' workshop (60 minutes).
The Posters in Parliament event gives the opportunity for legislators and policy makers to see first-hand some of the innovative research taking place around the country. The exhibition is a great opportunity for students to share research and ideas with those from other universities across the UK. The modern world faces big challenges in a huge range of areas such as energy, health and sustainability but Posters in Parliament clearly demonstrates that we have a new generation of emerging researchers able to meet those challenges.
Winners: The following Brookes students presented their work at PIP 2024
We are delighted to announce that two students have been chosen from a competitive selection process within Oxford Brookes University to attend this event. They were supported on the day by Senior Lecturer, Dr Alon Lischinsky:
Harriette Gardiner-Simms, BA Geography and International Relations - Do the People Make the Place? A More Democratic and Diverse Vision for Cultural Heritage: The Case of Banbury’s Business Improvement District
Melissa Zulle, BSc Business and Marketing Management - Critically evaluating and researching the attitude of Generation Z individuals (aged 18-24) with disabilities towards inclusive marketing strategies and the representation of disabilities in advertising - A qualitative study in the UK
Melissa: “When I heard that Brookes was participating in Posters in Parliament, I immediately knew I had to take a shot at it. My research focused on Invisible Disabilities in Advertising, which is a topic I’m very passionate about; especially after hearing the perspectives of the people I interviewed, I really wanted more people to know about my research. As a Marketing student, I was always fascinated by how the media shapes our perception of reality and the role advertising plays in it. Participating in this prestigious event was a tremendous opportunity for me to learn more about how the UK parliament functions and to feel empowered by the possibilities of collaborating with them to make our voices as researchers heard. The workshop and tour were incredibly enlightening, and I would enthusiastically recommend this experience to other students. If you have a research project that you're proud of and would like to share it with a wider audience, I strongly encourage you to give it a try!"
Harriette: "When I received the email that I had been selected as one of the two students to showcase my research at Posters in Parliament I was overcome with excitement. Attending the event was a great experience that involved a tour of Parliament, a workshop, and discussing my heritage research project about 'Banbury's Business Improvement District'. The time spent designing my poster in the lead up to the event and engaging with others during the event provided a fantastic opportunity to gain confidence and equip me with new skills. Overall representing the university was a fantastic opportunity that I would highly recommend to undergraduate students."
