Stoats

Stoats are the number-one killer of many New Zealand endangered birds. They hunt and kill just for fun. They can even swim short distances!

The stoat looks very cute but watch out because it is very dangerous to our native forests. It is a small animal. They have brown black fur with a creamy white colour on their belly and weird pink feet. They have a small, dark brown nose that is shaped like a circle.

They are hunters who have two main reasons for living, to eat and reproduce. Stoats and other introduced predators threaten our treasured animals.

Park rangers try to make it less painful for them when they trap and kill them.
