Shhh... Listen! I heard some thing in the tree did you hear it? It’s the beautifully intelligent songbird called the korimako. I can hear it’s wonderful angelic voice singing high up in the ngahere.

Did you know the korimako also called a bellbird, is named for its pretty song made up of 2-6 clear notes?

Korimako are common in forested areas especially where there is diverse or dense vegetation. They are rarely found north of Auckland and in much of Canterbury and Otago. They eat insects, spiders, fruits, berries and the nectar of native plants.

Korimako adult males are olive green slightly paler on the underparts with a head tinted purple. Their wings and tails are blackish.

Female korimako are browner with narrow white or a yellow stripe across the cheek from the base of the belly and have a bluish gloss on top of their head. Both adults female and male have wine red eyes.
