Tūī

Tūī are one of the country’s most admired birds.

The tūī can regularly be seen in forests, parks and gardens especially were its favourite nectar plants might be found - harakeke, kōwhai, pohutakawa, rata, and rewarewa.

The Tui is one of our most talented song birds. It is often the first to start singing in the morning and the last to finish in the evening. Sometimes it will even sing into the moonlit night. Its song is a series of clear, liquid notes, plus an amazing range of chuckles, coughs, whistles, twangs and beeps.

It can imitate nearly any other birds songs as well as a range of mechanical devices such as car alarms and phones .
