Rats

Rats are introduced pests that threaten the survival of native animals. They are also know to spread diseases.

The ship rat (Rattus rattus) is the most commonly found rat species. It has a tail that is longer than its body, and ears that cover their eyes when pressed forward. Ship rats are widespread around New Zealand on the three main islands.

They eat plants, seeds and lots of native animals which makes them a big problem here in New Zealand.

Trapping them needs to happen.
