IsiXhosa in the Further Education and Training (FET) phase is an enriching subject that fosters linguistic proficiency, cultural appreciation, and a deep understanding of personal and social identity. This subject encompasses a wide range of skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing in isiXhosa, while engaging with the rich literary traditions, history, and cultural practices of the isiXhosa-speaking community. Through literature, poetry, oral storytelling, and formal language use, learners are encouraged to explore and express themselves while gaining insight into their heritage and the broader African cultural landscape.
The FET phase of isiXhosa places emphasis on developing effective communication skills for both academic and professional contexts. Learners are equipped to critically analyze texts, understand nuanced meanings, and express ideas clearly and confidently in isiXhosa. This subject also promotes social responsibility, ethical reasoning, and the importance of community, helping learners navigate real-world challenges with a strong sense of identity and cultural pride.
By the end of the FET phase, learners should be able to confidently engage in complex discussions, write analytically and creatively in isiXhosa, and apply their language skills to their future academic and professional pursuits, contributing meaningfully to the preservation and promotion of the isiXhosa language and culture in a rapidly changing world.
