The core

Inquiry Question: Through ceramics, how do I strategically capture the distinctive and memorable feelings I've had while traveling?

Artist Statement: I began this year with an unknown inquiry question; wondering what direction I wanted to go with my artwork. My first piece was the nesting bowls that depicts the 4 layers of the earth – which evidently really sparked my interest in the idea of creating work around my experiences traveling. I reflected on my trips with family, friends and by myself and began planning the best ways to capture those precious memories. Traveling has always been something that is very important for me: immersing yourself in other cultures gives you the opportunity to be educated both on other people in the world along with who you really are. "The Core" comes from the concept that you shouldn't always think 'big picture' and you should take the time to appreciate the little things. Expressing this notion, my art is a dedication to those small moments while traveling that have had the largest impact on me.
