I hope you enjoy my AP portfolio, Home is where the ___ is.
What is home?
Piece #1 takes the question literally, being a scene from my own home. Pieces #2 and #3 consider how home can be built upon the self or upon another person. Piece #4 explores the home that exists within the mind and in the imagination. Pieces #5 and #6 represent an intense moment of self reflection on how home is not a static entity, but rather a journey that is constantly changing, hence the bike. Pieces #7, #8, and #9 are a short trilogy showing the journey to eventually make -peace- with this fact and reach a place of acceptance. Piece #10 shows that home is worth fighting for. The wasp army was referenced from ancient Chinese soldiers, connecting the piece back to my own ancestors' home.
My narrative arc is a story of constant change, which is reflected in my process. Several pieces are centered around the use and reuse of imagery that appeared in previous works (the bike, star, and spaceman are examples). For another layer of complexity, many pieces self-recycle and reuse images from earlier in the process. For example, in many pieces, I sketched an image, scanned it, printed it out, collaged with it, and reactivated on top with more drawing and painting.
