Material Safety
As designers and makers, it is important that we understand and know any risks associated with using the natural and synthetic materials in our studio.
The Material Safety Data Sheet, or MSDS, is written information about the materials we use in the Design Studio. The MSDS sheet for a material will tell us about:
the chemical composition of the material
any health risks with using the material
what protective clothing or equipment we should use
how to store the material safely
what to do in an emergency
how to recycle or dispose of the material safely
This information helps us, and you, understand any of the risks associated with using these materials.
Forbidden Materials
For health, safety, and environmental reasons, the following materials cannot be used in the Design Studios or with our equipment, unless approved by the Head of Design:
Styrofoam
Foamboard
Pressure treated wood
Chemically treated wood
