The CNC Router can cut a range of materials accurately and efficiently.

You can use it for making large projects, furniture, and prototypes

Using the CNC router

Please check with the Design Department before planning to use it. We can help you with choosing materials, planning your design, and scheduling the printing.


*This CNC Router must be operated by the Design Department technician or Design Teacher

CNC Router Workflows

Choose the workflow that best matches your project.

CNC Router Workflow

Working in Easel

We recommend Easel for simple designs that consist of one or two parts.

Working in Fusion 360

We recommend Fusion 360 for  complex, large designs with interconnecting parts.

Step 1

Create your design in Easel. Login or create an account (it's free)

Watch this tutorial on how to create designs using Easel.

Settings:


After creating your design, save it in the following format: 

Family Name, First name, Grade


Step 2

Confirm the settings in your file with the teacher or technician.

Follow the instructions for setting up the router.

IMPORTANT:  Students may only use the router with teacher supervision.

3.4 Fusion 360, Create a DFX file for Laser Cutting.mp4

The video shows you how to do this for the laser cutter, but the process is the same.


Step 3

Round the inside corners, if necessary.  These are called Dogbones.

The standard diameter of the bit is 3.125mm. Use a diameter of 4mm for your dogbones.

You can create these in two ways:

1. Creating Dogbones in Fusion 360

2. Creating Dogbones in Easel

Easel has an app for creating dogbones.  We recommend it for simple shapes.  Practice using.


Step 4

Import your file into Easel

Use the Import DFX App in Easel and follow the instructions


Step 5

Confirm the settings in your file with the teacher or technician.

Follow the instructions for setting up the router.
