Resolution and Filetypes
Choose the correct combination for the best results
Resolution
Resolution refers to the how many dots make up the image. It is measured in DPI (Dots Per Inch)
The greater the DPI, the sharper the image is. However this also increases printing time and ink consumption.
Also, the distance that something is viewed will also determine the ideal DPI. In general, the greater the viewing distance, the lower the DPI can be.
Close – 0.5-1m, 200 dpi is recommended
Close to medium – 1-3m, 150 dpi is recommended
Medium to far – 3-6m, 100 dpi is recommended
Far – 6m, 75 dpi is recommended
Filetypes
Depending on what you are printing, different filetypes can give you the best results. Your graphics program can export a file in the ideal format. We recommend the following:
Fine Art Print or Photo: TIFF at 200 DPI or 300 DPI
Poster with lots of text: PDF at 150 DPI
Graphic Poster with text and images: TIFF, or PDF at 150 DPI
General file: PDF at 150 DPI
IMPORTANT
If you have created your file in Google Docs (Doc, Sheets, etc.), please save it as JPG. This will ensure that your fonts look accurate.
Paper Sizes
We can print BIG!
This printer prints on rolls of paper, not sheets.
These standard sizes can be easily printed. Use the templates below, or create your own in your software of choice.
The printed is best for printing A2, A1, and A0 sizes.
Paper Thickness and finish
The thickness of the standard paper is similar to 20lb photocopier paper.
Other types of paper are available or you may have to order them. These include: Matte, semi-gloss, synthetic canvas, and polyester.
Speak to the Design Technician if you would like to use non-standard paper. Allow for 2 weeks to order special paper.
