Entertainment Trends

When we analyzed the survey that was conducted of students in Communications and Collaborations class, we found that the top three entertainment trends are Netflix, Friends, and Stranger Things.

The most popular entertainment trend, from our survey, is Netflix. Netflix is an on the go or at home television program. You can use it with your computer, X-Box, PS-4, iPad's, iPhone's, Wii's and many other electronic devices.

Netflix has many TV-shows that are popular among all ages. They have shows from the 1900’s such as the Dick Van Dyke Show, Andy Griffith, Friends, etc. TV-shows from the 2000’s that are popular among eighth graders are Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, etc. They also appeal to younger children. Movies that would appeal to them are shows like Moana, Boss Baby, PJ Masks, etc. Netflix also has many other movies, documentaries, TV-shows, and other shows for your viewing pleasure.

The other two most popular entertainment trends are Friends and Stranger Things. These shows are both on Netflix. Not only that, but they are also on other television apps similar to Netflix.

We also asked many survey questions to Jaxon Clooten as well as Jesse Hetletved, a couple of 8th grade boys at Horizon Middle School. Jaxon explained his love of Stranger Things and how much he wishes the new season would come out sooner than 2019. While Jesse states how much he enjoys watching movies/episodes on Netflix including, Stranger things, Riverdale, and 13 Reasons why. He also added fidget spinners and slang to his list. Both of the boys agreed that trends will come and go and that many people end up over using the term, action, or even the object. Jaxon was introduced to Stranger things by an old friend who mentioned how much he likes the show, Jaxon then went home and watched some of it and continued watching it, "I ended up watching both seasons in that one night!" he said. Jesse on the other hand began the love of his entertainment by the work of himself, "I mostly introduced myself to all of the things that are mostly watched now. I guess I kind of started watching them and found that many of my friends were also." he pointed out... When it comes to slang, both Jaxon and Jesse said that they partially use it and they became aware of it through friends, as well as social media (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram) Jesse informed us that he once was an addicted soul of dabbing, according to him it was becoming a nuisance, and every time he was in Mr. Blanchard's room and would dab, he had to do push-ups. He also told us that he realized that dabbing was really unnecessary and that it was slowly dying due to the lack of people dabbing, Jesse says that it also applies to the Whip-Nae-Nae as that has also passed from being a larger trend. As Jesse stated his thoughts, Jaxon also had his, "many of the trends that were once huge are much older then people realize." he reported. Jaxon told us that tech-decks were something he played with as a younger child. "As we got older," he begins, "things start to come back, I had seen fidget spinners at least a year before they became a big hit in our school. The only reason the trends die so quickly is because teachers take them away and less people have them anymore." Lastly he mentioned that many people become sick of the repetitive actions such as dabbing and the Whip-Nae-Nae. To conclude their statements regarding Horizon Middle School's trends of the first semester year 2017-2018 many trends having to do with entertainment have come a gone, but many new trends are yet to come this upcoming semester.
