Class Moments (Teacher Edition)

"It's only embarrassing if you care what people think," right? We've all had our crazy moments, but what about teachers? The teachers of Horizon Middle School were interviewed in January of 2018 to find their best class moments from semester one. Two teachers were picked from each team area and the best moments that they shared have been carefully selected.

The first teacher we interviewed was Mr. Barker, from Storm. As you may know, this wonderful teacher has a love for sports. At one point, he was challenged by Paige Kempel to a game of basketball and a ping pong match. To his surprise, his student beat him at both, and left him shocked. "She beat me, but she knows I'm better," he bragged.

Next, we interviewed Mrs. Tufte, another Storm member. Sometimes, there are things we can't see in the mirror. But even though Mrs. Tufte didn't see it, her class did. At two different occasions, she arrived to school with holes in her sweater. The first hole was on a more obvious place, while the second hole was sneakier. It was revealed to the class when she lifted her arm to write on her board. After the incident, she unfortunately needed to throw the sweaters away.

Our beloved Mrs. Halverson was able to offer two moments. One of her craziest moments was having a student break his collarbone not even 24 hours before the concert. Her most embarrassing moment is tripping over an amplifier... in front of her entire class! Ouch!

While most teachers have your average moments, Mrs. Worrel gets to deal with the leaks and water damage around Horizon. This year has been strange to her, from not having windows anymore to sprinkler pipes. But not only has she been battling the waters, but she just so happened to lose her favorite mug as well. The best of us have broken possessions, but have you ever had hot coffee in the broken item? As the glass shattered, poor Mrs. Worrel was left with a huge mess to take care of.

Horizon's Digital Literacy teacher, Mr. Wright, was recently left in a sticky situation. One morning, he sat on a cupcake, but not just any cupcake. A cupcake with purple frosting! The stain was revealed to his class when he walked up to teach, but the sneaky sixth graders left him clueless. The class period ended without a word about the frosting, so the next group got to see the accident as well, except they eventually told him what had occurred. Hey, at least purple looks cool with black!

Lastly, Ms. Jenkins gave a compliment to her students. Most of her physical fitness students are boys, and she deals with a lot of trouble. But as for this semester, she has dealt with one of her best groups of kids. Most students have shown participation, active listening, and overall good behavior. "This doesn't even feel like a job to me," she states. "I get paid to have fun!"

From coffee spills, to sitting in cupcakes, the remaining part of 2017 has been pretty crazy for students and teachers alike. Horizon's future is bright, make it a good year!
