Welcome 5th Grade parents to the Fall 2021 PBL Virtual Exhibition Night. The 5th Grade students will be exploring our theme: The Carousel of Life through all subject areas. By the end of Q2 we hope our scholars will have a deeper understanding of how people and progress changed the world in the 19th and 20th centuries.

In Mrs. Harris' Math Class the students analyzed the culture surveys that the 5th grade parents filled out. The survey allowed each family to have a discussion around where they were born, what countries are in their family line, and what holidays they celebrate.
In Mrs. Singman's Social Studies Class the students listened to actual historical accounts of what it was like to arrive at Ellis Island during the 19th century. The students enjoyed a VR experience through Nearpod and talked with Mrs. Singman about what it means to be a 1st generation immigrant in the United States.
In Ms. Major's ELA Class the students began researching inventors that changed the world with their inventions in the 19th and 20th centuries. The students would go one to use this information for their opinion essay (in ELA) and for their timeline work (in Social Studies).
Social Studies- The students created a "New Country". They had to decide where their new island would be located, create a flag, a constitution and write 10 amendments that all of their citizens needed to know.
Here is a sample from each class.
Social Studies- The 5th Grade students had the choice to create a Passport or timeline for the invention they wrote an essay on in Ms. Major's HR (or any invention created in the 19th and 20th century. Below are a few examples from each homeroom.
The 5th Grade students will have some amazing virtual guests and have some fun connections with their specials classes. There will even be an art component!
