Tips for Making a Good Video

Setting up for your video:

  1. Choose a clean, uncluttered background. A white or solid colored wall works well.

  2. Perform a sound check. Record your introduction in iMovie, then listen to the video to make sure you are easily heard and there is no background noise. Touching the iPad’s microphone while you film can create loud noises in your video. So can wind.

  3. Perform a lighting check. Stand where you plan to make your video and record a few seconds of video. If the windows or ceiling light are behind you so your project or your face are in shadow, you may need to change location, turn on more lights, or bring in extra lamps etc.

  4. Recruit a cameraman to help if necessary. It can be difficult to place your iPad so that it will catch the action up close and stay in place. Recruit a helper and show them what kinds of shots you want and how to use the iPad.

Music in Your Video

You are NOT required to use background music. You may add music if you wish, if you follow these guidelines:

  • Do not make the music so loud it disrupts the action or overpowers the clarity of your voice.

  • You may use royalty free music(If you don’t know what this is, look it up!), or music you have produced. Do not assume that you can use music you purchased. That is only for personal use.

Things to consider while making your video:

  • Your materials and procedure should be clearly visible in the video.

  • Film each section of your script separately and edit the different sections together using iMovie so mistakes are easy to re-film.

  • Don’t read from your script. Practice it several times first so you can do it from memory and your delivery will be relaxed and natural. Make sure your voice is clear and audible.

  • You are NOT required to have your face and body in the video. If you choose not to video your face, please leave your body out of the shot as much as possible too. You don't want to look like you cut your head off by accident.
