Recognize perspectives: Explains various perspectives or interpretations of a situation, event, issue, or phenomenon, and reflects an understanding of different contexts, such as access to knowledge, technology, or resources.
In Model UN we are challenged every day to recognize perspectives and communicate ideas by learning new things about other countries and other people’s situations. Even if we don’t agree with others in the classroom we still have to understand where they are coming from, like it or not. In Model Un, we have to at least go to one conference a year to get credit. The conference I chose to go to was over the cold war. This conference was my first one and was very interesting to see how everyone reacted to each other. In these conferences, you can’t blurt out anything but instead, be cordial and respect one another. This one conference taught me a lot just from one day.
This conference ties to the ISSN goal “recognize perspectives” because having to act as another country you have put yourself in a bubble to have the same beliefs as that country for the conference and you can twist the country around to be like you unless you are the United States but even then some of the things our government I don’t agree with but I still have to recognize it and respect it. This class has taught me a lot not just how to recognize perspectives but also how to be able to be cordial with someone you don’t necessarily get along with because with this academy you grow up with these people in your JAGS classes like it or not they are still a part of your JAGS journey and in the end it’s okay not to be best friends with them or not even talk to them at all as long as you are civil with them and that is one of the most important I learned in this class because of Ms. Stone. Even though we might but heads about things she still is one of the best people I know because she is strong and knows what she is doing even if we students don’t agree with it a lot of the time it always ends up with the situation being a life lesson.
