Junior year I got an opportunity to work with 2 3rd-grade exchange students which led to me being able to help 2 3rd-grade classes every Tuesday and Thursday. Going into this experience I didn’t think I would learn that much from these kids but instead I learned a whole lot from them. They tested my patience and made me think fast on my feet. Even though it was stressful at times these kids are the reason I’m choosing to go into early education when I go to college because the kids I have worked with this past year are incredible. They are witty, smart, and a joy to be around most of the time. It’s hard to do sometimes even just as a helper but it is so worth it to be able to see them grow as a person.
From meeting Myron the first time to now he has completely changed his English to be way better, he has friends that care for him and he is so sweet he is an incredible little person he has the cutest obsession with flags, and will hopefully become a future jagger. He can be a handful at times but once we learned how to communicate with each other he does his work and actually tries to learn at least when I'm there. Ming-Chen was so timid when I first met her and she didn’t know anything I was saying or what to do but now she has broken out of that shell. She talks to me now, she has a passion for drawing and organization opposite to Myron is the most unorganized kid I’ve met. But Ming-Chen has just been the sweetest girl from day one and I hope that never changes for her. Then the rest of the kids in their classes are just as amazing and it’s so cool to see how they have grown as well and how they communicate with each other as well as how they’ve grown to communicate with me. Some part of me wishes I could be their teacher because they are so great even though they all have their flaws.
