Sophomore Year/Spanish III - Communicate Ideas: Selects and applies appropriate resources, such as technology and media, to communicate and collaborate with a range of diverse individuals.
During my sophomore year, My Spanish teacher, senior Fradl, tasked us with the job of creating a website of a fictional family portrayed by ourselves. We then had to present this project to our class and keep an ongoing log of our family and our families activities throughout the year to strengthen our Spanish vocabulary and grammar. We portrayed a family emigrating from the United States to Argentina.
Each person in the family was assigned the role I was One of two sons oh, other Jag student Elizabeth Ripple portrayed the our mother oh, and we also had a grandmother. each of us had jobs I was an employee at Dunkin Donuts. it was all very realistic. Then we went and had a photo shoot with props and of course our family pet, Pedro. Then, we got to work, we did comprehensive research on Argentine culture, music, food, dance, traditions, and economic activity. Then we took all this information we compiled and placed it on to Google Sites web page and then gave a presentation based around this webpage.
This relates to the ISSN domain/JAGS Pillar of “Communicate Ideas” because we used a variety of research methods and created a presentation and accompanying website, entirely in Spanish, to educate our fellow classmates on Argentinian culture. Our presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session, where we essentially had to act as experts on Argentinian culture for our class.
This was the first time I truly was required to utilize my foreign language skills to their fullest. This helped me to become more confident when speaking in Spanish because oftentimes prior to this project I felt nervous about even speaking in class, however after a successful presentation I was much more empowered to speak in my Spanish class afterwards.
