Community Engagement Opportunities in Battle Creek

The Youth Alliance Committee (YAC) was formed in 1989 by the Battle Creek Community Foundation to involve local high school students in improving the quality of life for Battle Creek area youth. YAC fulfills this goal through grantmaking, volunteerism, evaluating needs & interests of youth, and actively engaging in various community projects. The committee typically represents all the schools in the community, both public and private. Bringing in students from all the area high schools provides a diverse and well-rounded viewpoint of Battle Creek for grant funding decisions, community service activities, and youth-oriented events. The current Battle Creek Community Foundation Youth Alliance Committee consists of 35 student representatives from the five Battle Creek area public schools for the Foundation’s 2021-22 Fiscal Year. The entire committee meets on the first Sunday of every month, and there are four grantmaking meetings aligned with the Community Foundation’s grant rounds. The committee consists of an Executive Team (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer), a Social Media Sub-Committee, and an Event Planning Sub-Committee.

If you have any questions regarding the Youth Alliance Committee, please reach out to the Battle Creek Community Foundation office at 269.962.2181.

YC is an after school program for high school students in the Battle Creek area. The YC meets every Tuesday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in the Voces Community room.

The YC focus is to create a space for young Latino/Hispanics to:

  • Develop professionally

  • Gain volunteer opportunities

  • Receive support for higher education

  • Build leadership skills

  • Explore careers

  • Make friends

  • Do fun stuff & more!
