WHAT IS PBIS...
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

GOLDEN TRAY AWARD
As part of our PBIS initiative, we introduced the Golden Tray Award to our students the week of September 23rd, 2024. Each day the students will try to earn the Golden Tray. At the end of the week, the grade with the most number of Golden Tray Awards will receive a reward as a class. Each week one class in PK-2nd and one class from 3rd-6th will be named the winner.
INTRODUCTION TO BEAR PAWS:
I hope you are ready to be back at school and begin the implementation of our BEAR PAWS. I'll have 30 Bear Paws for each teacher in the morning at Morning Meeting. We'll discuss again the purpose and intentions to the students. Students can receive them from anyone throughout the day. We're asking the homeroom teachers to collect at the end of the day and bring the collected Bear Paws to the gym the following morning. On Friday, we will be doing a prize drawing for EACH grade during their lunch time. Remind the students that even if they do not win anything on Friday, their Bear Paw will go on to an even bigger prize drawing at times later in the year. At any time, if you need more Bear Paws, let me know and I'll get you more.
Reminder to staff for the intent of the Bear Paws:
We want to recognize students showing BEARS traits in the moment -- tell them why they earned it
We do not take the Bear Paws back as a form of punishment -- once they earn it, it is theirs regardless of future behavior
This a Tier 1 support system for ALL of our students -- we want ALL students to have the opportunity to be recognized IF they earn it
This program is not replacing anything we're currently doing. It is another form of use trying to improve the school culture through positive acknowledgements of our students. Staff should continue to submit positive office referrals as you have in the past. Positive office referrals and Bear Paws are not the same for our students.
PBIS FOR EVERYONE -- BEAR PAWS:
We have collected over 2,400 Bear Paws in the past 5 weeks! We've recognized over 350 students on Fridays as well. Students and staff continue to keep up the great work!!! The least overall represented trait continues to be APPRECIATIVE. Show your students what it looks like to be appreciative.
PBIS FOR EVERYONE:
The BEARS Guideline for Success is the foundation of our education process here at Park City Elementary. We can EVEN use it at home. Check back each week as we dig deeper with our BEARS Guideline for Success and connect it to PBIS as well. Make this part of your daily routine and expectations. Our students and staff start each day by stating the BEARS pledge during morning meeting.
Be Appreciative:
At school -- be a good listener; follow directions; say "please" and "thank you"
At home -- use your manners; wait your turn to watch on TV; complete your chores with a happy heart knowing you are doing your part to help
