WEEK OF OCTOBER 23RD, 2023
WELCOME TO "GIVE ME FIVE"...
THIS IS WHERE I'LL GIVE YOU FIVE THINGS EACH WEEK THAT MAY BE HELPFUL TO YOU THE STAFF, THE STUDENT, OR THE PARENT. IT MAY BE INFORMATIVE OR REFLECTIVE. YOU MAY USE SOME OF IT TO HELP AT HOME OR IN THE CLASSROOM. SOME OF THE INFO MAY BE FOR YOU TO PLAN YOUR UPCOMING DAYS OR WEEKS. THE GOAL IS TO GIVE YOU AT LEAST ONE THING YOU CAN USE TO MAKE YOUR LIFE A BIT EASIER.

REFLECTION and THE WEEK AHEAD:
We collected 380 Bear Paws this past week!!! We got to recognize 70 students with a snack of their choice on Friday.
I do want to add that all of our students handled the drawing with so much maturity. EVERYONE cheered and celebrated their friends who were recognized. Not a single student was mad or upset that their name did not get drawn. Please remind each of them I am thankful for their attitude and support of each other. Hopefully, everyone will continue to be positive and celebrate everyone's accomplishments.
Reminder to staff for the intent of the Bear Paws:
We want to recognize students showing BEARS traits in the moment -- tell them why they earned it
We do not take the Bear Paws back as a form of punishment -- once they earn it, it is theirs regardless of future behavior
This a Tier 1 support system for ALL of our students -- we want ALL students to have the opportunity to be recognized IF they earn it
This program is not replacing anything we're currently doing. It is another form of use trying to improve the school culture through positive acknowledgements of our students. Staff should continue to submit positive office referrals as you have in the past. Positive office referrals and Bear Paws are not the same for our students.
PBIS FOR EVERYONE -- BEAR PAWS:
Continue to look out for our students who are trying to earn those Bear Paws! Let's try to beat our record of 380 Bear Paws this week. We only had 10 Bear Paws that were designated for the those students who were caught being APPRECIATIVE. Let's try to catch our students using their manners this week. If you see a student saying "please", "thank you", "you're welcome", picking up trash, or being a great help to a friend, let them know you recognize their efforts by giving them a Bear Paw with a check mark on "Appreciative."

PBIS FOR EVERYONE:
The BEARS Guideline for Success is the foundation of our education process here at Park City Elementary. We can EVEN use it at home. Check back each week as we dig deeper with our BEARS Guideline for Success and connect it to PBIS as well. Make this part of your daily routine and expectations. Our students and staff start each day by stating the BEARS pledge during morning meeting.
Be Appreciative:
At school -- be a good listener; follow directions; say "please" and "thank you"
At home -- use your manners; wait your turn to watch on TV; complete your chores with a happy heart knowing you are doing your part to help

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them ."
