REFLECTION and THE WEEK AHEAD:
This past week was a very important one for us because of the things going on in our intermediate classes. On Wednesday, I visited both of the 6th grade classes to do the state-required Suicide Prevention presentation. All of the students did an outstanding job of asking questions and being interested in a sensitive subject to so many. Additionally, our 4th-6th grade students participated in the Panorama SEL surveys as well. We'll use this data to help us determine the needs of our students going forward.
This upcoming week, teachers will need to complete the Mental Health Screener that Ms. Downs sent to you via email on Friday. Here is an 8-minute video tutorial about what to expect: Mental Health Screener How-To. Teachers are to complete this by Monday, September 18th.
PREVENTION and POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH:
As mentioned above, I went visited both of the 6th grade classes. In case you are interested, this is the slide presentation we discussed. There is a video in the middle of the presentation that is great for kids and adults about the struggles many of us face and how we can help ourselves and others to overcome them. Our points of emphasis throughout the presentation were to take care of each other, tell an adult, and it is okay to not be okay. Contact me if you have any questions. Thank you again to the 6th grade Bears for being so supportive of each other and being willing to talk about all the issues in the slides.

Check out this video: 5 Incredibly Fun Games to Teach Self-Regulation
PBIS FOR EVERYONE:
The BEARS Guideline for Success is the foundation of our education process here at Park City Elementary. We can EVEN use it at home. Check back each week as we dig deeper with our BEARS Guideline for Success and connect it to PBIS as well. Make this part of your daily routine and expectations. Our students and staff start each day by stating the BEARS pledge during morning meeting.
Be Encouraging:
At school -- be a good role model, help others that may need it
At home -- use positive language, share devices, help sibling and parents with chores, encourage if people are feeling down
