Our PE Curriculum Visions

Intent

At Barlby Bridge Primary School, it is our intent that we offer a high quality PE Curriculum which inspires pupils to succeed and have an enjoyable learning experience. Barlby Bridge follow the PE planning scheme of work, this is adapted to ensure it meets the needs of all pupils. We encourage pupils to participate in a variety of sports both competitive and non-competitive within school and with other local schools, enhancing pupil’s sense of achievement. Pupils participate in games that provide opportunities to develop resilience and respect towards others. All pupils will engage in a minimum of two hours PE per week where our teaching focuses on developing opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health, fitness and wellbeing.

Implementation

We use documents from PE Planning to teach effective PE across our school, these lessons can be adapted to ensure the needs of all our pupils are met. Sessions cover and support aims within the National Curriculum. All pupils in Key Stage 1 and 2 have the opportunity to compete throughout the year in cluster events with other local schools. SEND pupils also have the opportunity to compete yearly in a specific SEND Panathalon event hosted by North Yorkshire Sport.

PE lessons are designed to ensure pupils develop the three pillars of progression (motor competence, rules, strategies and tactics and healthy participation).

Impact

Pupils will develop a lifelong knowledge and an enthusiasm for physical activity and exercise. At Barlby Bridge we motivate children to participate in a range of sports through engaging, fun and quality teaching. Pupils will learn to take responsibility for their own health and fitness and will be given the tools to strive to meet their age appropriate skills in Physical Education, with the aim of transferring these skills to everyday activities and other sports.

PE Planning Curriculum Sequence & Resources

As laid out in our Curriculum Vision for Physical Education, we are passionate about delivering 2 hours of high-quality P.E lessons weekly. We aim to inspire all children to succeed and excel in a variety of sports and motivate them to continue being active across the school day and outside of school.

With this in mind we use the PE Planning model curriculum.

Of their curriculum, the PE Planning say:

"We are an experienced team of PE Specialists whose sole job is to create and deliver high quality primary school PE lessons. We do not accept a plan that isn’t engaging, active and fun! Every new plan created gets a thorough MCA & MPL check… MCA: Maximum Class Activity, MPL: Maximum Pupil Learning. Our activities may be fun, but we are serious about the National Curriculum. Our highly qualified staff ensure our resources are current and appropriate for all primary school pupils."
