Short Term Disability Claim FAQ
Benefit Summary
Employees hired to work at least 30 hours per week are eligible to enroll in Short-Term Disability (STD) Insurance through The Standard.Â
Short-Term Disability provides income protection equal to 66 â…”% of your eligible earnings during the first 90 days of paid or unpaid leave due to illness or injury (excluding pre-existing conditions).Â
The elimination period is the amount of time you must be continuously disabled before STD benefits become payable. Benefits are not paid during this period.
Injury: No waiting period
Physical disease, pregnancy, or mental disorder: 7-day waiting period
This coverage is 100% employee-paid. Rates are based on your salary and age group (see Benefit Summary, page 2).Â
If you do not enroll during your new hire enrollment period, you may apply at any time during the year.
There is no annual open enrollment for this benefit. Coverage begins on the first day of the month following approval by The Standard (or that same day if approved on the 1st).
Late enrollees are subject to an extended waiting period—60 days for any disability caused by physical disease, pregnancy, or mental disorder occurring during the first 12 months of coverage.
A new enrollment form is required to remove or waive coverage. The waiver becomes effective on the first day of the month following HR’s receipt of your form (or that same day if received on the 1st).Â
