Participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) provides lifetime retirement benefits, with contributions shared equally between the employee and the District.

*Employee contributions are made on a pre-tax basis, meaning no federal or state income tax is paid on the contribution while employed. Taxes will apply when funds are withdrawn.

The Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) administers the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), along with related benefits such as life insurance, income continuation, and health insurance for public employees across the state.
ETF manages your retirement account, calculates your WRS contributions and benefits, and issues monthly annuity payments when you retire. They also maintain your official record of service and earnings.
You can log in to your MyETF Benefits Portal at etf.wi.gov to view your account balance, service credits, and projections for future benefits.
ETF also mails annual WRS Statement of Benefits summaries each spring.
No. Participation in WRS is mandatory for eligible employees. Current law prohibits opting out unless you are receiving an annuity or have recently taken a separation benefit.
