The classroom is organized around student tables.  While class sizes vary greatly and therefore the number of tables used and the number of students at each table may change, the goal is to have four students per table. This provides the best combination for partner practice, peer assistance, and independent work.  With input from students, students are assigned to a table, but may sit anywhere around the table they like.  

The Promethean Board is located on the East wall of the classroom and mirrored to the TV on north wall so that students can see screen and participate.  The Promethean Board is used to display the agenda and learning objectives as well as for direct instruction and student practice.

Chromebooks are the cornerstone of student practice (content manipulation) and assessment.  On Chromebooks, students access: 

• our Google Classroom, which also contains the agenda and learning objectives;

• Quizlet where students do daily independent vocabulary practice and class-wide competitive vocab games;

• content, reteaching, independent practice, media and instant feedback on our textbook publisher's Vista Senderos Prime website; and

• take a variety of assessments on department Google Forms (adapted from the publisher's assessments, but in a secure format,

Although each day may look somewhat different depending upon what part of the lesson we are in, typically we follow the following procedures (formal assessment may replace review, direct instruction, and practice):

• Students arrive to class and wait outside until the bell rings.

• The teacher greets each student at the door as students enter, enjoy music from the Spanish speaking world, get settled, and read the agenda on the Promethean board. (🎯obective)

• The teacher greets the class and reviews the agenda and models the oral check in. (🎯objective)

• Students practice vocabulary independently on Quizlet while the teacher calls on each student to respond orally to the day's prompt.  (🎯ARK: Activate Prior Knowledge and SAP: Student Active Participation)

• The class reviews and practices vocabulary together via PowerPoint (students repeat and/or anticipate vocabulary) and then play a competitive game of Quizlet Live!  (🎯ARK: Activate Prior Knowledge and SAP: Student Active Participation)

• Independent practice and immediate feedback via the textbook publisher Vista Senderos Prime website,  (🎯SAP: Student Active Participation and ISS: Identifying Student Success).  This is the time students may ask questions that apply just to them, such as about their grades or attendance.
