Extra Credit

Extra Credit is designed to be "extra" or in addition to regular assignments.  It does not replace actual assignments.  It is meant to enhance learning.

The following extra credit opportunities are available:

• Fix your quiz mistakes: printout (or PDF with markup) your passed back quizzes and correct your mistakes in blue ink (or blue digital markup).  This is due one week after it's digitally returned to you and will earn a 10% bonus on the corresponding practice activity.

• 10% bonus on quizzes are available on quizzes.

• Up to 10% bonus is available on engagement points each month.  You can earn "extra points" by winning in-class games or Práctica por puntos (see below)

• Extra credit assignments may be assigned at any time.  Be on the lookout!

• You can get extra engagement points by winning competitions in class or by scheduling "Práctica por Puntos."  (Engagement Category)

• You can get extra credit  by forming a study group.   This is a group effort and all members of the tutoring group must contribute and meet the requirements below.  To qualify for the extra credit:

  • All members of the group must have scored 90% or better (final grade; not raw score) on the Vista assignment on-time for which the group is requesting extra credit

  • The session must be outside of class hours, but can include lunch time or AVID class.

  • You have to have minutes for the group (a document that says what you did to study)

  • you need to get pre-approval with Sr. Trumps (to get pre-approval you must TALK to me during the individual practice time in class; no emails will be accepted or responded to)

  • at least one hour is spent studying (one whole period for AVID)

  • at least two of my current students are part of the group

• Extra Credit is available for Karaoke en Español.  Students learn (memorize) a song in Spanish and sing it in front of the class.  Interested students should select a song and then check with Sr. Trumps to verify it is available on Apple Music Karaoke and schedule a performance data.  Points awareded depend on the quality of performance (force of voice with microphone,  how "into it" the singer is, costumes, etc).  This can be done with a partner, but the points will be split between the two performers.

• Poster:  Students may create a poster about a Spanish speaking country, city, or famous Spanish Speaker.  Extra Credit may range from 25 to 100 points depending on the quality and thoughtfulness of the poster.  Posters must:

  • ✨Be on poster board

  • ✨Not have anything cut out and glued to them.

  • ✨Include graphics and text (more credit if the student composes text in Spanish, but, especially for first year students, texts in English can still receive maximum points if everything else is high quality).

  • ✨Be 100% done by the student (no help/translators/AI)

  • ✨Be in color

  • ✨Be displayed in class for at least a week.

  • ✨Have your name and period in the bottom right corner.

  • ✨Be pre-approved (Get approved by Sr. Trumps before starting)

• Heritage Month Posters:  Students may create a poster to celebrate one of the state recognized Heritage Months, including Black History Month, Women's History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, LGBT+ and History Month.  In order to qualify, the poster must focus on one or more Spanish speakers who represent the heritage group.  The details are the same as the poster extra credit above, so please come get your plan for your poster approved by me before you start.

No assignment that has extra credit attached can earn you more than 110%.  🙂
