A deep and solid foundation in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is integral to the development of all students’ personal growth, not just as members of our school community who are growing in their capacity for self- and other-awareness, but as they develop their personas as learners, and as future, change-making adults.
The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) describes SEL as an integral part of education and human development. It is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
Our school values of Welcome, Safety, Respect are centered on this, and our commitment to creating a community that acknowledges and respects our individual contributions is based on knowing how to problem-solve, how to reflect and iterate on our experiences, and set and meet our personal and academic goals.
