Hey CLS, I (Wendy) have had a number of folks fielding questions and concerns from faculty about comments made at the Chancellor's Town Halls. I think it would be wise to have a meeting where CLS can share their concerns and questions--before the Data Summit. This meeting is for concerned faculty to speak up.The format that I think will work best is kind of like a School Board meeting. CLS Department Leads (Assistant Dept. Chairs, Dual Credit Liaisons, and I) will take notes, answer questions when we can, etc.
I do ask that speakers limit their prepared comments to 3 minutes. We are people who LOVE to talk, and in the interest of keeping this meeting to an hour, if you have a comment or question, please type it up and read it--practice a bit--so it's sharp and to the point. That way, we can have plenty of time for all to be heard. And, we can collect clear, concise, qualitative data and information, which will sincerely help us best share our thoughts with the administration.
The meeting will be Tuesday, March 19, 6:30-7:30pm.

Ever wish you had a streamlined way to collect information from students who want letters of recommendation? Wish no more! Jenifer Hernandez has created a wonderful Google Form and shared it with the department!
You can check out Jenifer's Google Form, but please don't share that link with your students. That one is Jenifer's!
If you'd like to create your own Google Form, you can copy all the text from this document: Letter of Recommendation Request (text only)

Major Day - March 20, 2024
On Wednesday, Mar 20, 2024 The Student Affairs team will hold a student-facing event called Major Day, at which we’re going to represent the CLS crew and the English Major as part of our ongoing effort to Revitalize the English Major. Your RTM team would love your energy and support in this effort, which translates to “please come hang out and show students how cool we CLS people are!”
We’ll need table coverage for the event, which runs from 10-2 at the Highland Campus. Any time you can come spend with us will be both greatly appreciated and almost certainly a good time. Here’s a link to the calendar event so that you can let us know if you’re able to come spend some time with us: Major Day English Major Table
The RTM crew thanks you for your support! If you have questions, reach out to Eli Ryder.

Please share this opportunity with your students:
Join members of our community in asking the Great Questions of humankind through discussions of transformative texts. Community Seminars include opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community members to discuss Great Questions, guided by transformative texts that productively raise them. Community Seminars are interactive and fun. They begin with free tacos and hopefully end with greater wisdom.
On Friday, March 8 from 12pm -2:30pm, we will focus on Gloria Anzaldúa's, Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza. In the preface to the first edition of the book, Anzaldúa writes: “Borderlands are physically present whenever two or more cultures edge each other, where people of different races occupy the same territory, where under, lower, middle and upper classes touch, where the space between two individuals shrinks with intimacy."
It's sure to be an excellent conversation, and I hope you can be a part of it!
While all are welcome to attend, this RSVP form is required. We need to get an accurate headcount for food, as well as to put you in small discussion groups. You'll also need to complete the short reading assignment from the text before coming, which is available at the above link.
We will start with tacos at 12pm. At about 12:30pm we'll all gather in a large presentation hall at HLC to go over ground rules before splitting off into small groups for discussion. The evening will end with a debrief back in the presentation hall. This is an engaging event where you'll spend most of the time talking in small groups about Great Questions.
The exact location at HLC will be emailed to those who RSVP. We'll be in touch with those who RSVP!
Contact Ted Hadzi-Antich Jr. for more info!
The ACC Energy and Sustainability Office is asking for participation in the following events:
Take the Sustainable Transportation Survey
Propose an Earth Week event and save the calendar (Earth Week is April 22-26)
We need to tag artifacts in Blackboard for the yearly assessment of general education competencies. This year the focus is on Visual Communication, Social Responsibility, and Teamwork. If you are teaching a Core Curriculum course, please tag at least one relevant assignment from each of your courses. Here's written and video instructions for tagging assignments in Blackboard.
Ron Johns, Associate Dean of Assessment and Evaluation, put an emphasis on the Social Responsibility competency, and notes that "assignments for Social Responsibility should, at a minimum involve:
demonstrating a knowledge of different cultures and/or perspectives
analyzing or comparing commonalities and differences between these cultures or perspectives"
ACC is hosting a Data Summit on March 27 from 10am-2pm at the HEB Center. (Campuses will be closed from 8am-4pm) Full-time faculty are required to attend. Adjunct faculty are encouraged to attend. See the flyer below.
