Sample Mastery Check-Ins

Our goal for all 8th graders is that they master the 8th grade math standards as well as become proficient problem solvers.  Student progress towards these goals is monitored via Monthly Mastery Check-Ins (read more about Monthly Mastery Check-Ins here).  The Mastery Check-Ins consist of 6 questions, each of which revolve around one of the 8th grade essential math standards.  After the Mastery Check-In is reviewed and scored by the teacher, there will be an additional opportunity (called the "Fix-It") to demonstrate mastery on standards which were not passed on the initial Mastery Check-In.  

To give students a sense of what these Mastery Check-Ins will be like, we are providing a bank of sample Mastery Check-Ins from previous years that students can use for practice. 

Here are some details about how this bank of sample Mastery Check-Ins is set up and how it can be used:

1)  There are several sample Mastery Check-Ins versions for every chapter.  The initial number in the file name indicates the corresponding chapter.  The subsequent letter denotes different versions of the Mastery Check-In.  The A & B versions are sample Math 8 Mastery Check-Ins, while the X & Y versions are sample Math 8 Challenge Mastery Check-Ins.  The rest of the letters represent other assorted versions.  Students can simply select a version, print it, and complete it at their leisure.  

2)  The sample Mastery Check-Ins do not include the answer keys.  However, digital answer keys are available to students who complete a sample Mastery Check-In.  A student need only show a completed sample Mastery Check-In to their teacher and the teacher will share the digital answer key with the student.  

3) ADDED BONUS:  Completed Sample Mastery Check-Ins may be redeemed for 2 stamps on your stamp sheet!  For each chapter, you may only do one Sample Mastery Check-Ins for stamp sheet credit.  Feel free to do more, but only one may be submitted for credit.  We want you to get sufficient practice for the current chapter instead of getting most of the stamp sheet credited via Sample Mastery Check-Ins.
