A Historic Night at Angel Stadium
Under the bright lights of Angel Stadium, a historic moment unfolded as the Cypress Centurions clinched their first-ever CIF-SS Division 2 baseball championship in 2005. Led by the masterful pitching of CIF Player of the Year, Adam Wilk, the Centurions defeated the Yucaipa Thunderbirds by a score of 7-1.
The game was a classic pitcher’s duel, with Wilk dominating the Yucaipa lineup. His pinpoint control and devastating fastball kept the Thunderbirds off balance throughout the game. The Centurions' offense provided timely support, capitalizing on key opportunities to build a comfortable lead.
The victory was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Cypress team. Coach Dave Lewis, who was named Orange County Coach of the Year, instilled a winning culture and guided the team to unprecedented success.
In addition to Wilk, several other Centurions stood out during the championship run. First-team All-CIF selections Mike Morrison, Joe Cariaso, and Nick Tanos played pivotal roles in the team's success. And let's not forget about a young sophomore named Josh Vitters, who would later be selected in the first round of the MLB Draft.
The 2005 CIF championship was a watershed moment for Cypress High School baseball. It was a victory that will be remembered for generations to come, a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of the players and coaches who made it happen.
